How To Tackle Weird Interview Questions

When attending an interview you could be faced with some curveball questions. These weird interview questions may be used to test you under pressure or to provoke an honest response and you need to handle them like a pro.

You usually feel prepared for the predictable interview questions. You’ve heard them before and you’ve thought up some answers that are sure to impress. What are your strengths? Easy. What are your weaknesses? You’ve got them ready. Why should we hire you? Because I’m so well-prepared to answer that question!

But what happens when a question comes up that you’ve never heard before and that’s a bit unusual? Questions that catch you off guard and provoke spontaneous answers can be quite telling. You may think that this is a bit cruel, but can you really blame the interviewer for wanting to get an accurate impression of you?

When these weird interview questions pop up, you should pause and avoid the urge to blurt out the first thing that pops into your head. What you should ask yourself is what is the interviewer really asking?

If they ask you what you think of garden gnomes, they probably don’t really care what you think about garden gnomes. What they really want to know is whether your personality and humour is going to fit in with their team.
