Emotional Intelligence Test – How Do You Measure Up?

By CareerExperts on 30th March 2016 Career Progression, Work Skills

Do you ever fly off the handle? Are you an excellent listener? In meetings, do your colleagues get a word in edgeways? You may think that these things all come down to personalities and behaviour but, while this is partially true, there is something else at play – emotional intelligence.

You know what emotions are and you understand the concept of intelligence, but what is emotional intelligence? In short, your emotional intelligence is the measure of how in tune you are with your own emotions and how much you understand those of others.

For some, understanding what they are feeling is easy yet there are others who struggle to contain or control their emotions – this all comes down to how emotionally intelligent a person is.

You may think that this is something that is only relevant in your personal life, however emotional intelligence can govern how you behave, how you interact with others and how you deal with things such as stress and pressure. It’s also key when it comes to communication skills. For these reasons, more and more employers are starting to place value on the emotional intelligence of potential employees. They may even choose to assess this at interviews!

If you really want to be successful in your professional life, then being as self-aware as possible is key; understanding your emotional intelligence is a good place to start.

The emotional intelligence test below will help you to assess how emotionally intelligent you are. If the result isn’t what you were expecting, then don’t be disheartened; emotional intelligence is something you can develop and improve.

What are you waiting for? Take the test to find out how emotionally intelligent you are and to identify any areas with room for improvement.
