How to Write a CV: A Video Guide

    1
By CareerExperts on 25th April 2016 Job Application Tips, Job Searching

If you’re looking for a job, you’ll know having a killer CV is essential if you’re trying to stand out from the crowd. However, sitting down to write a CV is easier said than done, especially if you have never done it before or haven’t updated one in a while.

Writing a CV isn’t just about listing your achievements and skills, but plotting them out in a well-structured format which is tailored to the job description and your level of experience. For example, a CV for a place on a graduate trainee scheme might be very different to that of someone looking to make their next career move in banking.

So, to make your job search a little easier, specialist recruiter Randstad UK has created a practical video guide which gives you all the information you need to get the best out of your CV, whether you are updating it or starting from scratch.

You can watch the video here:

    Key Takeaways

    • At the top of your CV, you should always include details such as your name, address, email and phone number, plus any relevant links to online portfolios, LinkedIn profile or personal websites.

    • You should also include a concise personal statement tailored to the role you’re applying for, and a key skills section with a list of job related skills, transferable skills and adaptive skills with evidence to back them up.

    • A chronological list of employment, your roles and responsibilities, is important and you should include your education history too. However, be sure to keep your education history short and only list individual qualifications if absolutely necessary.

    • Finally, list a couple of referees along with contact details or use your LinkedIn profile to showcase your best endorsements.

    What’s next?

Once you’ve perfected your CV, be sure to upload it to CV-Library so that employers can get in touch with you about relevant jobs!
