5 Tips to Make Your Business More Energy Efficient

When running a business, energy is a cost that must be factored in. As a business owner, you will have control over how much energy you use, so to avoid paying over the odds when your bill comes in, here are 5 simple tips on how to make your business more energy efficient.

    Switch Off and Unplug Equipment

At the end of the working day, it can be all too easy to forget to switch off computers and laptops and head for the door, however, what you may not realise is how much energy you could be wasting. As the owner of a business, it’s up to you to go around the office to check things like vending machines, microwaves, and office equipment to ensure they’re either switched off or unplugged.

    Turn the Heating Down

While you will obviously not want to make the workplace feel like an igloo, turning down the heating by just one degree can potentially save you up to 10% on your heating bills. Keeping the office warm for your employees, customers, and visitors is important, but you can still maintain comfort levels while saving money on your energy bill too. Also, while the heating is on, refrain from opening any windows.

    Replace Old Equipment

Whether it’s a fax machine, printer, or your beloved laptop, every piece of equipment has its sell-by date. While you may think your old equipment is doing a great job for your business, it may need more power to run efficiently and effectively. Another great way to make your business more energy efficient is by replacing old equipment with new and modern appliances. While the price of new equipment may be ooff-putting you will save more money in the long run according to the experts at Simply Switch Energy.

    Get Employees on Board

While it’s good to be energy efficient as the head of a business, it’s crucial that your employees follow suit too. If each member of the team takes the right steps in becoming more energy efficient, you will be surprised at how much money you can save each year on your energy consumption. Drilling into your staff the importance of turning off equipment and encouraging them to be more proactive to minimise energy use can make a big difference.

    Find the Best Supplier

Now that you have a better idea on things that you can do to make your business more energy efficient, the final step you need to take is to find the best energy supplier on the market. With so many different companies fighting for your custom, it can be hard to know where to start, so you may be interested in visiting comparison sites like Utility Bidder that enable you to compare business energy prices. This is something you can do on an annual basis to ensure you are taking advantage of the cheapest rates.

Switching off or unplugging equipment that’s not in use, turning down the heating in your office, replacing old equipment that uses too much energy, as well as looking online to find the best business energy supplier are just a few things you can do to make your business more energy efficient.
