International Field Trips: Must-Visit Countries and Destinations

Traveling has come to a halt in recent months as the pandemic put the whole world in lockdown. However, avid travellers and adventure-seekers are hard at work planning their next trip for when the borders reopen. If you’re in that demographic, you know how powerful an international experience can be, and even before planes take off the ground.

We’ll probably spend more time doing field trips in cars and busses, so here are a few hot spots:

    The Tenerife

The largest and most populated of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is a real gem worth your visit. It is a desert island with a volcano right in the middle of it, and it’s all worth visiting. The temperature is ideal year-round, which makes this such a perfect destination and eliminates the concept of seasons. The South and North halves of the island are quite different, and there’s a lot to see in between, but organized tours aren’t that common, so getting some friends together and going on a little adventurous field trip around the island will let you experience everything at your own pace.

    Iceland

One of the lands everyone must go to once in their life, where fire meets ice, Iceland tops a lot of people’s bucket lists. It’s the only place in the world where you can stand on top of a glacier, a volcano, and on a black sand beach all in one afternoon. There are so many fantastic things to see, it’s no surprise that these school trips to Iceland are popular! It’s always a good idea to go with a guide, especially if you have plans to see specific things, such as the dancing lights, puffins, or some other natural phenomenon. If you are going solo, the best way to see it is to rent a car and take a ride around the island, because staying in Reykjavik and taking day trips just won’t give you the same freedom.

    Florence

For any lover of fine art and culture, Florence is an unavoidable must-see. You’ll want to spend a good few days there, too, because your eye will literally not know where to settle from all the beautiful sceneries around you. It’s an unavoidable stop for any North Italy school trips and excursions because there’s so much history to be learned. For art lovers, this will be a wonderful experience, and for those who aren’t – it just might turn them. The good thing about going with a group as part of a field trip is that you get to skip the lines, which are often quite long.

    Plitvice

How about a slice of untouched nature, tucked away in Croatia. This lush greenery is straight from a movie scene and you will find yourself dislocating your jaw in awe. It is literally one of the most beautiful places in the world, so if you’re a lover of waterfalls and lush greenery, this is the place for you. It’s a great starting point for people to get in touch with nature, so it’s often used as a stopping point on school field trips because you don’t need any special equipment to get around and enjoy it.

    Tianzi Mountains

If you want to visit a place that looks completely otherworldly, take a look at the Tianzi Mountains in China. They were the inspiration for the floating mountains in the movie Avatar, and they really look like they are from a different planet – especially on foggy days. It leaves people of all ages in awe, and it’s great for a field trip if you make sure you’re going with an experienced guide! The area is huge, so make sure someone trustworthy is leading the way – and telling you a bit about the area: What’s the point of a field trip if you don’t learn anything new?

    Argentine Patagonia

If you’re looking for adventure, you better get ready for this one. The landscapes are absolutely otherworldly, and this trip is one you will remember forever. It’s geared towards people who are a bit older and more experienced. Pack your gear, because you’ll be scaling glaciers, spotting endangered penguins and climbing the Andes to get the most stunning views of your lifetime. Students who love activities in nature and want to plan a trip should definitely keep this one in mind!

If reading this started the itch for travels, that’s totally normal. Very few people in the world would not want to visit these stunning locations. So whether you’re a teacher looking for inspiration on where to take the kids on the next field trip, or an avid explorer looking for ideas, hopefully, this gave some options. Keeping a travel journal in which you write down all of the locations you want to visit and information you find about them will make sure you never run out of travel inspiration and with unused holidays.
