Tips for Your January Job Searching Attire

The new year is always about new beginnings. There are the ubiquitous resolutions, everyone you meet is full of positivity and the will to change. Magazines and television don’t speak of anything other than your new year horoscope and a look to the year ahead with what resolutions you should make. This is why most people are powered up and ready for a challenge each time the new year comes around!

January is the month in which most companies hire new employees. This is prime interview season. So it can mean only one thing, dressing for the job you want!

One of the top ten tips for interviewing is to present yourself well. When you dress right for an interview, it shows that not only are you serious about the role but you are respectful of the interviewer’s time and you actually desire the position.

So first things first, start with the shoes and work your way up. If you don’t think the shoes are important, just ask Cinderella, she would beg to differ. Clarks is the quintessential British store and has been around for centuries. Their exquisite leather shoes are perfect for both men and women. You can save yourself some money by using a Clarks voucher online.

The job market has changed a lot over the last few years and sometimes you need to let your creativity show. Certain roles call for you to stand out from the crowd and not blend in. People get hired on the two Cs: Confidence and Character. People that look the part give off an air of confidence. Your personal style needs to shine through as it reflects your personality. Why not try a coloured blazer? Next has a fantastic range of colours and fits for both petite and curvy. This way there can be no excuse for an ill-fitting jacket.

Turning up to a job interview in a T-shirt is a definite faux pas, even if it costs more than your monthly food bill. A crisp tailored shirt is the best way to go and in a neutral colour. Next and H&M are the go-to stores for well-fitting and affordable shirts.

A dress and blazer on top is always a great choice, it’s easy and saves hassle. Marks and Spencer have a great range of classic dresses that are perfect for this.

Your accessories are also important. Try and keep the clanging bracelets to a minimum and maybe leave the Mr T style gold chains at home and choose something a little more classic.

Your bag is important too, you may have to bring something to the interview and you most certainly don’t want to carry around a cotton tote. ASOS have a great range of leather bags in all shapes and sizes and to suit every budget.

For you men, it may seem easier and all you need to do is throw on a suit and tie but it’s not quite that simple. According to Monster Jobs top ten tips for a job interview, the first one is do your research. This is important for your choice of outfit also. You need to know the office attire. If you are going for a job in a large multinational or a bank you know that you have to turn up looking the part.

There are so many different colour suits for men nowadays so leave the black for funerals and get yourself a nice charcoal or navy suit. A good suit will stand the test of time so it’s a great investment.

Whatever you choose to wear, remember to do it with style and confidence.
