Fahim Imam-Sadeque Explains Why University Education Is More Than Just a Piece of Paper to Hang on the Wall

Most people think going to university is all about getting a degree. While that is certainly the primary reason for going, Fahim Imam-Sadeque explains there are many benefits that go beyond just a piece of paper to hang on a wall.

There are many benefits of getting a university education. Here are some of the most important benefits.

It’s More Expensive Not to Go

This is an odd statement, but it’s true. The cost of not going to university is far greater than the cost of going to university. How can that be?

The income for people who don’t have a university degree is decreasing at a greater rate than the increased cost of tuition. As a result, the financial outcome gap between obtaining a university degree and not obtaining one is becoming wider at a fast pace. New figures show that working-age graduates earned £10,000 more than non-graduates in 2018and had higher employment rates.

    It Fosters Independence

First-year university students are thrown to the wolves, especially when they live on campus. It’s the first time many first-year university students live on their own, with other people their age.

In this regard, going to university is about much more than just getting an advanced education. It’s about managing courses along with a job (for many), socializing, and other basic life skills such as cooking, cleaning and doing laundry.

University forces students to become independent adults. Professors and counsellors also often encourage free thinking in ways that teachers and administrators at other levels of education to this point simply don’t.

    It Enhances Understanding

A university education doesn’t focus on just books and source material. Instead, most professors will integrate real-world experiences into an all-encompassing education experience.

University mathematics isn’t just about learning formulas and how to solve equations. It’s about understanding how the subject has a profound impact on current worldwide issues, such as analyzing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and how to create a vaccine distribution program.

University education provides students with much more than book knowledge. It provides perspective and understanding about the world around them that no book could teach them.

As students gain these experiences in and out of the classroom, they are better prepared to enter the world as independent adults who can make a significant impact.

    It Increases Confidence

Getting a university degree is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, of course, but it also requires students to overcome many challenges.

As they face these challenges head-on all by themselves, they’re able to build confidence that will carry them throughout the rest of their lives. Fahim Imam-Sadeque explains that this confidence will serve university graduates well in all aspects of their life — from personal to professional experiences.

It can be challenging for people to gain some of these skills and experiences without going to university. But that’s why earning a university degree is so much more than a piece of paper you frame and hang on a wall.

    About Fahim Imam-Sadeque

He earned his degree at the City University of London in 1991 and became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1995. Mr. Imam-Sadeque also focuses his attention on aiding those UK immigrants from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to better education opportunities in order to expand their horizons in society.
