Making Yourself Invaluable To Your Employer: A Guide For In-Office Staff

    0

Working in an office can be fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work, and there are a lot of factors to think about.

One of them is making sure that your commitment to your role gets recognised and that you highlight how important you are to your company.

With insecure jobs rising and many workers worried about how the current economic crisis will affect their role, it’s understandable that you might want to make yourself invaluable to your bosses to boost your chances of retaining your role, getting a promotion or being given additional perks.

Here are some simple ways you can highlight your value to your employer and improve your chances of succeeding in your office-based job.

    Make A Point Of Punctuality

As simple as it might sound, always being on time to work can make a huge difference to the way your bosses perceive you and how much they value you. If you are regularly late to work, then they might think that you aren’t interested in your job and aren’t very motivated. While it might not seem like they notice if you do arrive early, they will see the effort subconsciously, and when they’re thinking about promotions or other perks, their mind will go to loyal team members like yourself. So, make an effort to always be on time or, if possible, slightly early so that you can highlight your commitment to your role.

Take Responsibility For Health And Safety

Health and safety are important in an office environment. If you take responsibility for some of these important duties, then you can show your value to your company and make yourself harder to replace. So, consider offering to become a fire marshal or a first aider for your company. You could also think about conducting the office risk assessment and being responsible for ensuring the ongoing safety of your workplace. This approach will help you to show your employer that you’re committed to your role and could also help you to boost your CV.

Offer To Help Organise Outside Activities

Many workplaces offer outside work activities and extras, such as company outings and team-building days. If you know that these events are being planned, then you could offer to help organise and manage them. Offering your help will show your willingness to support the senior management in your organisation and your commitment to helping your fellow team members. It will also help you to immerse yourself in the company and learn more about the people you work with. Even if you pass them in the corridor regularly, you might not really know them, so working on outside activities and events could be a great way to improve your knowledge and, potentially, make new friends who could be useful in your future career.

Highlighting your value and showing your employer that you’re willing to support them can help you to make yourself invaluable to your organisation. Use these tips to make yourself feel more confident in your job security and show your boss how useful you are in your office.
