How to Handle Hay Fever At Work

No one likes hay fever, because you cough, you sneeze, and you generally feel miserable the entire day. If hay fever strikes during the workday, then it can be almost impossible for you or anyone else to get some work done. If the pollen count is high whenever you walk into your workplace and you forgot to bring your avamys nasal spray then you do have some ways to keep your symptoms low and get your work done.

It’s important to remember that hay fever, along with other problems that stem from high pollen counts, is generally caused by your reaction to the pollen entering your eyes and nose. The sneezing, itching, and watery eyes are all simply ways that your body is defending itself from the pollen invaders.

Use A Balm To Keep The Pollen Out

The reason that you are sneezing so much is because the pollen is getting inside of your nose, which can cause all manner of problems. So, an easy solution is to keep the pollen out of your nose, which can be done with a balm such as Vaseline. Then you can place this balm on the outside of each nostril and it will act as a glue to trap the pollen particles. Then they won’t get inside of, and then will not irritate your nose.

Make sure to reapply the balm throughout the day to ensure that it stays strong, as you will be wiping your face quite a lot if you are sneezing.

Keep The Windows Closed And Your Office Clean

The best way to handle hay fever at work is to ensure that the pollen never gets to you. By keeping the windows and doors to the outside closed, and having the AC on a bit earlier, you can help to get a jump on the pollen. This might not be available for all businesses, but you can always ask, and if you work from home you can also control your ‘office’ how you want.

Now that the pollen from the outside is staying outside, the pollen indoors needs to be handled too. Keeping your workplace clean and dust-free can ensure that you aren’t sitting in pollen that just needs one wrong move to be aggravated. So make sure to wipe down your office, especially daily whenever pollen season comes around. Be sure to wipe down your keyboard, mouse, monitors, desk, and any other objects that you will be touching throughout the day.

Additionally, in addition to your workspace, try to keep your work clothes clean as well, because pollen can sit in your clothes and get into all the crevices. So make sure to wash your clothes, and if you have to wear the same clothes for work, you should be washing them daily in order to remove all the pollen.

Wash Your Face And Hands Regularly

Pollen doesn’t just get on your work clothes and work environment, but it also gets on your skin as well. So keeping your personal hygiene up at certain parts of the day can be very beneficial. You can take full showers whenever you are at home and done for the day, but even washing your face with a hand towel can soothe your sore eyes and wipe away most of the pollen.

So have some times during the day when you are cleaning your hands and face because that will do more for your symptoms than you realize. Additionally, it can do something for your personal hygiene as well.

Have A Hay Fever Supply Kit

If you know that hay fever strikes at certain times of the year or after certain events in the weather, you need to have a kit available to deal with it. Having extra tissues, soothing nasal sprays, anti-allergy pills, and other materials to deal with the symptoms of your hay fever can be very helpful for you.

Instead of needing to make a supply run every single time that the hay fever hits, you can have all the well-stocked supplies in your desk beforehand and can spend less time sneezing and more time working on your work.

Hay fever at work doesn’t need to be the thing that grinds your work to a halt, and if you have the proper ways to manage it and keep the symptoms under control, then you won’t feel so sick and run down when the pollen particles come out to play with you.
