    Why Study an MBA?

By CareerExperts on 20th May 2022 Choosing Your Career, Graduate Careers

An MBA, or Master of Business Administration, is a highly valued postgraduate qualification that gives an extensive overview of business operations and management. While MBAs are at the same level of study as other Master’s degrees, they are typically pursued after a few years of work experience rather than immediately following a bachelor’s degree.

An MBA can lead to a higher salary, a better professional reputation, and a significantly larger network of business contacts. If you’re looking to improve your career and obtain a high-level executive position, an MBA may be the answer. While they can be challenging from an academic point of view, the potential rewards are often more than worth it.

Aside from the traditional route of studying full-time at a business school, many universities and business schools also offer online learning. An MBA essentials course, for example, can be studied around your current work commitments and provides the necessary tools and information to develop an understanding of the modern business world. Here are some of the main reasons why studying for an MBA can be beneficial.

    Develop Advanced Management Skills

If you aim to work as a C level executive in a major firm, having advanced management skills is crucial. An MBA is the best way to learn and develop your management skills, giving you a better chance of obtaining and succeeding in executive positions.

The exact modules and curriculum of each MBA are often different, but common topics covered include improving people management skills, dealing with difficult situations, hiring top talent and improving employee retention and promoting and maintaining the company’s positive image.

    Grow Your Business Network

While the classes are the most important part of an MBA, the potential to grow your network shouldn’t be overlooked. In business, networking is essential for finding new opportunities and learning more about the sector you work in. The most successful people in each industry are those who network well, enabling them to keep up with current trends and make the most of available opportunities.

When you enrol in an MBA, you’ll be able to network with other students as well as with professors and teaching staff who all have professional experience. Many MBAs also hold networking events and may invite guest speakers to seminars too.

    Choose an MBA Specialisation

An MBA gives you an excellent opportunity to specialise in a topic that interests you the most. Depending on your specific goals and interests, you could find a specialised MBA that suits you.

Examples of MBAs include general management, marketing, finance, international business, entrepreneurship and human resources. Each of these will provide a specific focus that allows you to learn more about key areas of the business world. By taking a specialised MBA, you narrow your job opportunities but make yourself more attractive to potential employers.

Give Yourself the Best Chance of Success

The main reason anyone takes an MBA is that they want to improve their career prospects. An MBA is an excellent way to find new avenues for employment as well as gain access to higher salaries. The average income for someone with an MBA is much higher than a regular master’s graduate. On average, salaries are twice as high as they are for regular bachelor’s degree holders. Naturally, this can make MBAs very lucrative, although they are typically expensive.

Aside from this, finishing an MBA is an excellent way of preparing yourself for entrepreneurship. With the skills you learn from your MBA, you’ll be in an excellent position to launch a successful business, potentially unlocking even higher earning potential as well as the satisfaction of owning your own company.
