Four Ways to Make Money as a FedEx Delivery Driver

Some companies have seen the demand for deliveries quadruple in the last couple of years, and all over the world, the demand for delivery drivers is growing. So, there has never been a better time to become a delivery driver.

There are various companies you could consider working for. One of the most well-known on the global stage is FedEx.

In the fiscal year of 2020, FedEx employed over 500,000 workers. In the United States alone, the company employs more than 40,000 delivery drivers.

So, whether you’re in the United Kingdom, the United States, or another country, you could make money by becoming a delivery driver for FedEx.

Become a FedEx Express Delivery Driver

According to the job site Indeed, the average FedEx delivery driver in the UK earns around £82.09 per day. However, the exact amount you earn depends on several factors.

First off, FedEx provides two services: FedEx Express and FedEx Ground. So, the service you become a driver for can affect your paycheque. FedEx Express provides 24 to 48-hour delivery, by air, sea, and land, to hundreds of countries around the world.

If you want to play a part in making sure packages arrive within two days, regardless of the global location, a FedEx Express delivery driver position could be the ideal role for you. FedEx also provides the FedEx Express Saver option in some countries, which means packages are delivered within three days.

As a FedEx Express delivery driver, you would have a short time to ensure packages get to their destinations on time. FedEx Express drivers can earn more than drivers delivering standard packages with FedEx. In the United States, most FedEx Express drivers earn up to $31 per hour, which is around £23.

If you’re interested in becoming a FedEx Express delivery driver, your first port of call should be to check out fedex driver requirements to see if you qualify.

Become a FedEx Ground Delivery Driver

Another way of making money as a FedEx delivery driver is to become a FedEx Ground driver. The FedEx Ground service only uses trucks to transport items, so the entry barrier is more difficult than other FedEx delivery driver positions, but you can potentially command a higher salary.

In the United States, FedEx Ground delivers within five days across the country and up to seven days to destinations like Canada and Puerto Rico. Customers do not get to select arrival times with the FedEx Ground service.

As a FedEx Ground driver, in addition to dropping off packages to customers, you need to alert customers that their items are out for delivery.

    Put in Overtime

Typically, FedEx driving jobs are flexible and you can often work overtime. So, if you want to make real money as a delivery driver, simply put in more hours.

You need to ensure you don’t drive for very long periods of time, as that can be dangerous. But by staggering your shifts appropriately, you can work more and earn more.

    Get a Raise

While there’s no official information available to indicate what raises are like at FedEx, looking at past employees’ comments online, you get a good idea of what to expect.

Most workers in the United States say you can get a raise of between 50 cents and $1 per year, but you should do your own investigations to find out whether that is accurate.

One thing is for sure: like other jobs, the longer you stay with FedEx, the easier it will be to get a raise or move into other departments and climb the career ladder.
