How to Handle Multiple Job Offers

By CareerExperts on 18th September 2015 Job Searching, Job Searching Tips

After taking the time and effort to search for job opportunities, submit applications and attend interviews, you should be rewarded with a job offer! Sometimes, after all that hard work, two come in at once and that is when it is important to know how to handle multiple job offers.

Having multiple job offers on the table is not a bad problem to have! However, you do need to handle the situation with care and ensure that you deal with both employers involved in a professional manner while giving yourself the time to properly weigh up your options.

If you are unsure about how to handle multiple job offers, then take a look at the relevant scenarios below and the advice on how to tackle them.

If you have been offered 2 jobs at the same time

In this situation, the process should be relatively straightforward. You should weigh up what each company offers you in terms of benefits, professional development and company culture. This will help you to make the right decision for you.

It is not always best to simply go with the role that offers the highest salary. If you prefer the other company then it is always better to take numerous factors into account when making your decision. Once you have decided you can let each employer know.

If you have been offered a job but have some other interviews lined up

This can be a trickier situation especially if you feel that some of the interviews you have set up are for better opportunities than the one you have been offered. In this case, you should still reply to the employer who has made you a job offer and politely explain your situation. They will understand. It is also helpful to clarify when they would require an answer from you by. This will give you a clear timescale for making your decision and completing the recruitment process with other companies.

If you have been offered another role after already accepting a job offer elsewhere

If you have accepted a job offer it is not very professional to change your mind and it could be damaging to your professional reputation. Accepting a job offer is a contract between yourself and your new employer so you should not break it.

Once you have accepted a job offer, you should get in touch with any recruiters or companies that you are in a recruitment process is and withdraw your application.

Receiving 1 or multiple job offers is always exciting. Don’t let dilemmas like the ones above dampen your spirits and be confident that you can now handle multiple job offers in a professional manner.
