How to Ace an Interview for a Teaching Assistant Job

    0
By CareerExperts on 20th January 2020 Best Interview Tips, Job Searching

A teaching assistant job entails the need for you to genuinely care for your students, not only in terms of their learning curve, but their overall well-being as well. An interview for this job position is one excellent avenue where you can demonstrate this trait, by positively answering the questions that are focused on the students. This will guarantee that you will surpass the interview, but apart from this, here are some other tips that will help you to ace an interview for a teaching assistant job.

    Ensure that you are prepared

Proper preparation before the interview entails the need for you to do some research about the school or the type of students that they accept. You may also want to read through some of the common teaching assistant interview questions to be able to already have an idea on how to answer each if indeed it will be asked upon your interview. Nevertheless, keep in mind that these questions vary greatly depending on the school and the students they accommodate, which is why it is important to do ample research about the school beforehand.

    Be confident

In an interview, it is imperative that you should be able to sell yourself and what better way to do so than by displaying confidence. Before answering any interview question, take your time to nod at the interviewer asking the question to be able to present a calm demeanor. Formulate your answer to the question in your mind before speaking it out and ensure that you are looking into the eyes of your interviewer when doing so. In addition to this, it is important to have a mental list of your strengths and what you can bring into the table, as well as your weaknesses, which you hope to be improved through the job.

    Bring your documents

Avoid being caught off guard when one of the interviewers asks you for a copy of your documents by bringing them in during your interview schedule. Apart from your resume and credentials, you may also want to bring some samples of your art and craft activities or worksheets from your previous teaching job, if there are any. This is because a clear portfolio of your teaching work samples will greatly support your answers during the interview. There are even instances wherein they will ask for a teaching demo, which is a fantastic way to showcase your skills in terms of teaching.

A teaching assistant job is a career that is rewarding, but it is not for everyone. This is because it entails the need for a genuine concern for the overall well-being of the students, not only in terms of their intellectual learning, but the development of their personal characteristics as well, which can be physically, emotionally, and intellectually draining for a teaching assistant. This is the reason why it is important to assess yourself if you have what it takes to become a teaching assistant, and for sure, you will be able to ace the interviews without any qualms.
