It is not hard to find job opportunities especially when looking online, but it can be tricky to find the right opportunity for you. The first challenge that any job seeker faces is where to look for jobs.

It is always advisable to try a few different sources when you begin your job search. This will enable you to tap into different opportunities and hopefully find a great one that really suits you and what you are looking for.

If you are looking for new sources where you can look for jobs then take a look at the top 6 below and see if there are any that you have missed.

    1. Search with online job boards

Using online job boards is the most popular method of searching for jobs and is naturally the first port of call for many job seekers. There are a lot of great opportunities advertised on job boards so it is definitely worth taking a look at a few of them. Here are some of the top job boards that you can search on:

Indeed Jobs – Indeed is the world’s #1 job site, with over 200 million unique visitors every month from over 60 different countries.

CV Library.co.uk – CV-Library is one of the UK’s leading independent job sites. They have over 125,000 live vacancies across the UK that candidates are able to apply directly to. Their vacancies cover over 70 different sectors so there should be something for everyone.

We recommend uploading your CV to CV-Library so that employers can contact you about relevant opportunities. Upload your CV today.

Monster.co.uk – Monster promotes itself as the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities. Every minute around 7,900 job searches take place and over 2,800 adverts are viewed.

Reed.co.uk – Reed is a top UK job site that features vacancies from over 25,000 recruiters each year, including private and public sector employers and leading recruitment agencies.

TotalJobs.com – TotalJobs is another one of the UK’s leading job boards. It attracts around 6 million job seekers every month who can search through their 110,000 live job adverts.

If you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to your job search, then you will be pleased to know that all of these job boards have free apps available to download. This makes it really easy for you to look at and apply for opportunities even when you are on the move.

    2. Visit company websites

You may already have a few companies in mind when thinking about where you want your next career move to take you. If this is the case, go directly to the company’s website and take a look at their careers page. You can then apply for any jobs listed or send in your CV and covering letter speculatively if there are no appropriate roles advertised at that time.

    3. Take a look at recruiter websites

Recruitment companies can definitely help you out with your job search and many top employers use their services to take new hires on board. If you work in a specialist industry then find out who the main recruiters are for that industry and see if they have any opportunities for you.

If you are looking for your first graduate job, then there are numerous recruiters that specialise in graduate recruitment. You could take a look at The Complete University Guide’s graduate recruiters list as a solid starting point.

    4. Ask friends and family

You may be surprised to discover that a large number of new hires are still found through word of mouth. Let your friends and family members know that you are looking for jobs and see if they, or their contacts, may be able to help you find a new opportunity.

    5. Social Media

Social media is an up-and-coming way to look for jobs and the vast majority of companies now have a significant social media presence. You can find a lot of information about companies and their culture by visiting their social media pages and a lot of companies also advertise their jobs there. To ensure that you don’t miss out on these opportunities, you should like company pages that you are interested in and it is also worth following relevant recruiters as well.

LinkedIn is probably the best platform for job seekers to be on as employers and recruiters may actually see your profile and approach you directly about an opportunity that fits your experience. LinkedIn also has its own job search facility and suggests jobs that may be a good fit for you.

    6. University Careers Sites

This option is one for the graduates. Every university has a free careers service that is accessible for its graduates. The vast majority also have their own sites where jobs can be advertised, so they are worth taking a look at. University Careers Services often offer free CV and application help so if you have this option then take advantage of it!

Try out your job search options and see which you prefer and what works best for you. The industry that you work in may favour certain options over others so gauge where the best opportunities are popping up and go with that source. With these options at your fingertips, you will have found your next opportunity in no time.

If you know of any other job search sources that are not mentioned in this article, please share them below.
